Super high quality print, very happy with my purchase !!
This is a Grey-headed Swamphen (Porphyrio poliocephalus). It is from the Middle East. But like most natural problems, it is here in Florida because it escaped from being brought here. Scientists have tried to get rid of them but they have spread throughout the state. I thought at first it was a gallinule, but the beak threw me off.
William J.Tasker grew up in New Jersey but moved to New Hampshire at the age of eighteen. After fifteen years in New Hampshire, Tasker moved to the far reaches of northern Maine where the population is slight and natural beauty abounds. Unfortunately, so did winter...all six months of it. Now relocated to southern Florida, Tasker specializes in the lovely fauna and flora he finds around him under the banner of Natural Florida Photography. "Striving to make beautiful and thought-provoking images is what gives each day a new feeling of adventure!" Tasker has had a varied work life including many years in a tannery, some years in a hotel before getting lucky on the ground floor of a software company that took up fifteen years of his time...

Congratulations William, your work is Featured in "A Birding Group - Wings"! Thank you for introducing an invasive species considered to be an environmental problem. The Grey-headed Swamphen was introduced to North America in the late 1990's due to escapes in the Pembroke Pines, Florida area. State wildlife biologists attempted to eradicate the birds, but they have multiplied and can now be found in many areas of southern Florida. Ornithological authorities consider it likely that the swamphen will become an established part of Florida's Avi-fauna. It was added to the American Birding Association checklist in February 2013.
William Tasker replied:
Thank you so much, Don. Amazing how much damage we humans can do.
