Great canvas and framing. A decent shipping time, and EXCEPTIONAL safe packaging. Just an appropriate image for my viewing/listening room. Just took the speaker grills off for this photo.
Artist's Description
"Hagia Sophia" (from the Greek for "Holy Wisdom") (9in H X 12in W) depicts the sombre glow of sunlight on a Christian religious mosaic that had been partially destroyed and plastered over around 1453 when the Ottomans converted it to a mosque. Hagia Sophia was originally built on the orders of (Roman) Emperor Justinian I as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral between 532 and 537 AD, a role fulfilled until 1453. Between 1204 and 1261 (the Fourth Crusade) Hagia Sophia was a Catholic cathedral.
From 1453 until 1931 it was an Ottoman mosque. The four minarets were added and other modifications made at the beginning of that period. In 1935 it was secularized and converted into a museum, the role in which it continues to serve today.
Hagia Sophia represents the first architectural instance of a round dome seated atop a square base.
About John Garfitt
I was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, in 1952 and moved to Canada in 1957. I've had a lifelong interest in science, art and sailing. As a young man I loved to draw, but took a long hiatus until trying my hand at painting in 2012. Now, art has re-emerged as a focus in my life. My paintings capture experiences, places, people and things that have made a lasting impression on me. I don't think I have a particular style, and I'm not sure I want one. I think each piece should be experimental in some way. Painting is teaching me to see the world from different perspectives. I am inspired by the works of Andrew Wyeth and Brian LaSaga. I have been a member of the Canadian Federation of Artists since 2017.

Intrigued with the colour & lighting, I purchased a print - can't wait to see it. I've always wanted to see this sight, but can't imagine ever capturing it like this.
