Description
Rural Japanese houses of the traditional kind, like this one, display a special harmony with nature. Wood is the main material due to the abundance of trees in Japan and the ability of wood-framed structures to withstand earthquakes. Tiles ensure the roof is waterproof even though typhoons and blizzards.
This example sits on a hillside in Tenkawa Village, Nara Prefecture, in the historic west central area of the country.
