Description
A red umbrella and the perfect hat add color and flair to the New York scene.
New York Girl embodies that sense of vogue fashion and style that we’ve come to look for in vintage ads and magazines. Dressed in the perfect, sexy little black dress, the woman in Hello, New York! sports the perfect hat, the perfect shoes, possesses the perfect knees, and knows how to hold the perfect red umbrella with stylish aplomb.
A background of the Empire State Building and the Brooklyn Bridge place our model in situ. Whether or not we, as the viewer, have ever been to New York, and perhaps more importantly, whether we, the viewer, could ever fit into a little black dress as form fitting as the one the model is wearing, does not keep us from entering into the picture and enjoying the day on the town.
This is what representational art does, even representational art like Hello, New York! which possesses a more graphic flair and design. Representational art invites the viewer to leave wherever they are for the moment – especially if where they are is an office cubicle or inside the car during a traffic jam – and enjoy a moment in an artistic place of fanciful imagination:
It is the perfect day, and there is more than enough time for a walk in the park (in high heels, no less) and a ceremonial opening of the bright red festive umbrella. It is time to forget the next deadline, which will be replaced by another one as soon as the first is met, and to simply take a lesiurely stroll on the boardwalk because the day is warm, the sun is shining, the umbrella is vividly red, and we, the viewer, are young and happy and carefree.
