Description
This Russian Square Rigger looks beautiful even with her sails down! It was fun to see all her lags and hundreds of crew members taking the sails down, and hoisting them back up...We were in our small sailboat. I didn't realize how BIG this ship was until we got close to her. It is overwhelming and so amazing! To think that people sailed this so many years ago! To see the crew way up on the topsails, was so extroriginary! It is really a site to see. This ship is now in Seattle.. Not sure if it is going to go somewhere else, or stay in the Seattle Washington area..The Russian sailing ship Pallada visited the Puget Sound area when I took this. The 354 foot long tall ship Pallada, which is named for the Greek goddess of wisdom Pallas Athena, is a sail training ship based out of Vladivostok. The sailing ship Pallada is currently sailing around North America in order to commemorate the 270th anniversary of the first Russian exploration of Alaska. Guinness World Records lists the Pallada as the fastest sailing ship in the world. It can reach speeds in excess of 18.
•Sailing Vessel Name: Pallada
•Pallada Built: Poland in the 1980s
•Ship Hull: Steel
•Pallada Homeport: Vladivostok, Russia
•Pallada Sparred Length: 356'4"
•Pallada Draft: 22'4"
•Pallada Beam: 45'9"
•Ship's Flag: Russia The sailing ship Pallada normally sails with about 140 cadets and a permanent crew of over 55 teachers, officers, and crew.

Kym you are awesome~!!!!!!!
Kym Backland replied:
Jeff, Thanks so much! I didn't realize I was awesome! hehe.. I appreciate a "Good" compliment.. weeeeeee... What cool about this photo was that I was in a speedboat really close up to this ship! Nowadays, no one would be able to get this close to all these ships, Ferries, Official Ships... stuff like that, you get in trouble, and they put a perimeter around them, especially if they are in a parade... Not that ou asked Jeff, just giving you a little background "sidebar" commentary of how much harder it is to get close to "official" ships and such... Ok have a great day...Tomorrow..St. Paddy's Day... wear your green so you don't get "pinched" or don't wear it....maybe you want to get pinched!!! hehe...

I don't know how to figure that out, what with the NO LETTERS for me to type.. Ok, well I know this isn't your concern James! Thanks again!
