superb artwork Glenn!

Excellent work Glenn!

What a wonderful honor to have your work shown at the American society of Marine Artists Northeast Regional Exhibit - so well deserving of that and more; this is so realistic and exceptional artwork which inspires and delights - congratulations!!!

The "Cruel Sea" is one of my favorite novels. Your painting captures the spirit of the ship in the story. Unlike the destroyers dodging about, HMS Compass Rose, unassuming in her weather beaten and rusted hull, plods along, faithfully doing her duty. A painting well done, sir.

Congratulations!

Unbelievably incredible!!!!!

Congratulations Glenn!!!!!!!!!

This is breath taking, and warming a "old" navy hearth. Thanks for sharing this moment in time both historical and artistic.

WOW! What gems you have here at FAA. This painting looks like you were there to capture it.

What a nice piece. I can feel the movement of the ocean. Gorgeous

This piece is stunning. The composition is superbe - thank you Brent Jones! - and the piece lends itself well to the aluminum. I am agape every time I look at this piece, and so are my friends! I will seek out other works by this artist, and will both order from Fine Art America - and recommend this company with confidence and pleasure!!!

We loved the shopping experience AND the beautiful picture we bought! It was great to be able to shop sizes and finishes/treatments to get just what we needed for the space where the picture was hung. The quality of these pictures printed on metal is just stunning. The colors just POP! It is sort of like having a picture window in the room, allowing us to gaze at the Maroon Bells all day long!

A great shot of an amazing statue, completing my collection (for now, anyway) of classic Greek and Roman gods. Printing on aluminum brings out the detail beautifully, and, as always, the shipping was on time, the picture carefully packed. Pixels, you're the best.

Love this piece of art. It's exactly what I thought it would be. Couldn't be happier!

Artist's Description

This is the third painting in my "Ships That Never Were" series. It depicts the British, Flower Class corvette "HMS Compass Rose" protecting an allied convoy during the early years of World War II. She and her crew are the subject of Nicholas Monsarrat's finest novel: "The Cruel Sea" first published in 1951. The painting was selected to be shown at the American Society of Marine Artists Northeast Regional Exhibit from May 2008 until January 2009.

About Glenn Secrest

I'm a retired US Navy Captain and former business executive. While I have not had any academic training in painting, I've been privileged to work under the guidance of several of today's masters. Having spent almost all of my life near or on the sea, my first love is marine subjects. Concentrating in oils and watercolors, my other interests are landscapes and still-lifes.
