The HMS Sovereign of the Seas was one of the biggest and most prestigious first-rank tall ships of the XVIIth century, started in 1634 at Woolwich dockyards and released in 1637. She was ordered as a 90-gun first-rate ship of the line of the English Royal Navy, but at launch was armed with 102 bronze guns at the insistence of the king, Charles I. She was designed by legendary naval engineer Peter and Phineas Pett and had a long carrer, spanning until 1697 when she was left to rot and burnt in Chatham. She participated in the Battle of Kentish Knock, Beachy Head and La Hougue.
