Description
This frightening old house at 187 Benefit Street, in Providence, Rhode Island, was known as the Horace B. Knowles & Sons Funeral Home during the 1930s. At noon on March 18, 1937 the funeral for the legendary horror author Howard Phillips Lovecraft was held in this very building. It was an extremely small event, attended by only a handful of people. Years prior to his death, Lovecraft wrote of this funeral home in a letter to a friend because his aunt Lillian's funeral was held here as well. It makes you wonder if he knew his own funeral would be held here or not?
Today, the building is just a dorm building for the Rhode Island School of Design. Naturally, strange things are said to happen occur to those who reside here.
This photo was taken on a cool spring night just after a rain shower stopped.
