Description
Plein air watercolor and ink image of Horace Pippin's bench, a memorial marker in Everhart Park, West Chester, PA
Horace Pippin was an African-American painter born in West Chester, PA in 1888. He served in the Harlem Hellfighters in Europe in World War I where he lost the use of his right arm through sniper fire. Returneing to the US he took up art to strengthen his arm and started painting with oils in 1930.
His work was of the folk art style and was exhibited as far afield as the Tate Gallery.
"Horace Pippin's bench" sits in the beautiful Everhart Park with cherry blossom nearby and is a lovely, calm place.
