She is beautiful and her flowers are too:)

James Temple replied:

Thanks Debbie, the Hawaiian women seem to have a natural beauty, but the flowers do help.

Excellent reproduction of my print.

I gave this to a friend for Christmas. She picked it out with archival matte paper and loves it. She is really pleased with the quality of the print (said it came on a nice thick stock) and it looks really nice hanging.

Ordered this for my mom for Christmas - she loved it. Purchased the square print and framed it in a black square frame, came out beautifully. One of a kind gift!

Thank you for this wonderful print. I've just returned from having it matted and framed, and can't wait to hang it this week-end. It compliments my collection of framed art by adding a new style and genre to the lot. Naturally, it is also special to me because of it's subject/title (my name being Joan and all, not to mention being a resident of the PNW).

Artist's Description

Every year towards the end of May, the hula is celebrated at the Molokai Ka Hula Piko Festival (Molokai, the center of the dance). To the Hawaiian people, hula means something much deeper than a form of entertainment or a competition to gain reputation. It is their culture and ancient ways expressed in a dance that comes from within, from the center, the piko. The hula originated here on Molokai and every year I look forward to photographing my neighbors celebrating their culture.

About James Temple

I have lived in Hawaii since 2002, 1200 feet above sea level, on the small rural island of Moloka'i. It is very quiet here, with only about 7,400 residents, sort of like living in a small town in the middle of the Pacific ocean. I appreciate the quiet life after spending 35 years in the advertising/design/illustration business in Chicago and San Francisco. I have always loved cooking. Eventually that love led me to a degree in the Culinary Arts. Since then I have designed and built a house, worked in restaurants, self-published three cookbooks, and took up photography. Now retired, I spend most of my time developing recipes and photographing them, plus researching and writing about Hawaii's culinary history on my food blog at:...
