General McCormick served in the Union Army during the Civil war, served as a US Congressman from Missouri's third district, serving three terms. After serving in congress he retuned to Missouri setting up a medical practice in Farmington, and construction this house.
The house is a late example of Greek Revival a style that was on the decline when this house was constructed. It serves as a excellent example of the Green Revival design.
