Description
I studied and looked at various versions of The Pantocrator (Teacher) painted over the centuries by different iconographers. I was drawn to a very famous and well known Byzantine Icon called "The Christ Pantocrator" of St. Catherine's Monastery at Sinai in Egypt that was painted around the sixth or seventh Century (exact date is unknown). This icon depicts Jesus dual nature of Jesus Humanity and Divinity...as "True God and True Man." The image also has an interesting expression of His left eye looking at you symbolic of His being our Just Judge and identifying with our sin and His right eye looking upward toward heaven symbolic of His Divine Mercy towards humanity as He looks beyond our sin with compassion and forgiveness for those that humbly repent. This icon I painted (wrote) is a modern version of The Pantocrator and stylized in the expression of my heart and hand by God's grace. As an Iconographer I write my signature on the back side of the holy icons and date them.
