Description
I really love Julia Butterflies. They are a very soft orangy-brown color and the wings almost have a stained glass look to them with light shining through them. They are simple, elegant, and beautiful!
I was visiting our Franklin Park Conservatory (Columbus, Ohio) "Butterflies and Blooms" annual show on September 11, 2019. I was just walking around enjoying all of the fluttering creatures floating around this wonderful place. Lucky for me, I happened to look up when I was about to walk under this overhanging scene. I love how the light makes this male Julia butterfly almost seem to glow! He did not sit there for long, which is a lesson you learn quickly at a butterfly exhibit: get a couple of shots quickly and then take time to look at them without the camera if they stay there! This shot made me think of a dream!
Julia Heliconian (Dryas iulia) can be found throughout the year in southern Florida and South Texas and have been found farther north in summer. Caterpillars love to feast on Passion-vines including Passiflora lutea in Texas. Adult Julia Butterflies feed from nectar of flowers including Lantana and Shepherd's Needle. The most common places to find these are Brazil north through Central America, Mexico, West Indies, peninsular Florida, and South Texas and occasionally straying north to eastern Nebraska.
I really appreciate you taking time to look at my artwork. Thank you so much!
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
