It was an enchanting walk from the train station in Karlstejn up to the castle, perhaps more so because it was winter and there were fewer tourists visiting. Karlstejn is By far the most popular destination in the Czech Republic after Prague, and an easy day trip from Prague. So the lack of a crowd, and the quiet and solitude and stillness were all such a treat! From the train station you walk a little ways down the road, cross the river, and follow the road behind the steepled building up to the castle. Despite the anticipation of rounding that bend in the road and seeing the castle for the first time, we spend some time on the bridge enjoying the last winter sunlight, the smoke from the fires, and the lovely reflections.
