The Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori struthiunculus) is a large ground bird found in areas of open grassland or savannah in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Ethiopia. The male Kori Bustard is considered to be the largest native African bird capable of flying! They are usually solitary or in pairs during mating season, and otherwise in groups of 5 or 6 birds. The male is about 4 ft 11 inches in length and about 24 pounds in weight. They spend most of their time on the ground, on foot. They are very watchful and wary. They are opportunistic omnivores and forage on the ground for insects, small vertebrates, carrion, grasses, seeds, fruit flowers, and acacia gum. This species is classified on the IUCN Red List as "Near Threatened" globally, due to loss of habit.
