"Lake Isabelle, Revisited"

At an elevation of 10,868 feet above sea level, Lake Isabelle is a stunning example of a crystalline mountain lake lying in the shadow of the Continental Divide, and it did not disappoint during one summer morning visit. When I arrived before sunrise, the air was perfectly calm, the reflection of mountains and sky on the water, complete. The entire lake was a glassy, jewel-like mirror. As is sometimes the case during the middle of the week at first light, I could discern not a single human soul there other than my own. It seemed as if all of Creation was still at that moment, with its very breath held, so overpowering was the silence in that glorious cathedral.
As the sun rose behind me I made many photos, from many points of view along the shoreline, hoping I had at least one luminous exposure in my camera that was worthy of the moment. Finally, after nearly an hour of gorging on this emb...
