Description
When Dawn was a teen, a friend brought her a female horned lark with a badly broken wing. Although she did the best she could, Dawn knew that the little wild bird would never fly again. So Dawn took care of the lark for the rest of its life, and it became a beloved friend. It followed Dawn everywhere, running after her with its plaintive-sounding, high-pitched cries. She fed it seeds and insects and built it a miniature prairie in the corner of the cabin, with wild grasses, sand, rocks, and a little pool for bathing. Dawn made this pastel of her treasured companion to give to her sister, Lenore, for a birthday gift.

It warms my heart to know there are people in this world that would care for God's innocent creatures this way. The drawing certainly reflects the warmth from your heart....precious.

Such a neat artwork and story, Dawn. I remember your rescuing a baby bird that needed worms every few minutes. I was outside (a teenager) and crying because I just couldn't dig the worms up fast enough!--I was exhausted! I love the soft qualities of this work and the melding of the colors.
