The Galata Bridge crosses the Golden Horn in Istanbul, Turkey, and is the symbolic link between the traditional old city of Istanbul (site of the Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, and the Hagia Sophia) and the "new" districts of Galata, Beyoglu, Sisli, and Harbiye (where many western, Latin, and Catholic foreign merchants and diplomats lived and worked over the centuries). The current Galata bridge was built by the Turkish construction company STFA to link the current "new" Karakoy and the "old" Eminonu, and was completed in 1994.
