Description
"Lilacs, False blue, white, purple, color of lilac, Your great puffs of flowers are everywhere in this my New England" (poetry by Amy Lowell) and with this basket I attempted to capture the essence of Lilacs. I can see this basket filled with lilacs spilling out over the edges as the lilacs flaunt the fragrance of their blossoms. "Lilacs" won a Pulitzer Prize (1926) for Amy Lowell & is one of her best-known poems. "And Amy Lowell continues: "Maine knows you, Has for years; New Hampshire knows you, And Massachusetts And Vermont. Cape Cod starts you along the beaches to Rhode Island, Connecticut takes you to the sea. You are brighter than apples,Sweeter than tulips, You are the great flood of our souls bursting with the leaf-shapes of our hearts...". I sing of lilacs & remember my grandmother's fragrant garden filled with lilacs where I played for hours until grandmother called us in for dinner.
