Description
I've admired this barn with its decorative quilt block many times as I traveled on Highway 50 through the little town of Loose Creek, Missouri. After taking it's portrait, I researched the quilt pattern, and found that it is an old traditional pattern, called "North Star" or "Sawtooth." Legend has it that quilts with the "North Star" pattern were used as a type of code in the Underground Railroad, but historians have been unable to verify the legend. It still makes an intriguing story! (Near Loose Creek, Missouri)
