Title: Lord Peace
Media: watercolor on Arches hot press
Size of original: 7 x 15 inches
Author: St. Francis
St. Francis (1182-1226), born in Assisi, Italy and named Giovanni Francesco Barnardone, became a mystic and preacher. He appears to have received little formal education, even though his father was a wealthy merchant. As a young man, he led a worldly life. After severe illness, he resolved to alter his ways. His change of character and expenditures for charity angered his father, who legally disinherited him. He devoted his life to doing good, established the Franciscan order and was proclaimed patron saint of ecologists by Pope John Paul II in 1980.
This version contains the first part of his prayer. The design emphasizes his connection with nature. The more complete text in my 2nd version called Peace Prayer, St. Francis Prayer.
