The Ludington Lighthouse is a 57 ft tall steel plated Lighthouse in Ludington, Michigan on lake Michigan,other name is also known as Ludington North Breakwater Light. The Station was built in 1871 and was first lit in 1924, it was automated in 1972. The Original lens was a fourth Order Fresnel Lens and was replaced in 1995 with a 12 inch 300mm Tideland Signal ML-300 Acrylic Optic. the Lighthouse also has a Fog signal Type F Diaphone signal and FA-232.
The Large Ship Departing Ludington at Sunset is the famous S.S. Badger, which is a passenger and vehicle ferry in the USA on Lake Michigan since 1953, the SS Badger shuttles between Ludington, Michigan and manitowoc, Wisconsin a distance of 62 miles across lake Michigan - its about a 4 hour trip and a wondeful experience if you have never been on a Ship or Ferry.
The Ship is named after the University of Wisconsin Badgers, Charles F. Conrad of Holland, Michigan overhauled the SS Badger for carrying passengers and vehicles, and is the only operating ferry of its kind in the world, the ship is a Icon of car ferry heritage on the Greak Lakes.
