Description
This wilderness scene is actually on the southeast shore of the rather round Lyndhurst Lake. It is about a 30 minute paddle from the studio. I wonder if it was a kettle lake or just accidently round. A mixture of very old red and white cedars lined the marble shoreline. There was an old and very dead, red cedar log that reminded me of a Tom Thomson painting. I actually did not include it in the painting when I did the sketch - maybe next time. The water was shallow and lily pads dotted the depths like stepping stones. There was a line of white pines along the horizon on the east shore of the Lyndhurst Lake outlet which is appropriately named Lyndhurst Creek.
This shoreline is slated for development. I hope that the developer follows the rules but so far, history indicates otherwise.
