Magnetic computer tape storage racks. Met Office employee selecting a magnetic tape reel from a storage rack. These reels, which contain climate and weather data to be analysed, are in a computer room at the Met Office headquarters in Bracknell. The Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service, began to use computers in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Its headquarters were located in Bracknell between 1962 and 2003.
