Exactly perfect for Kaunakaki!!! Beautiful James. Aloha nui. l/f

James Temple replied:

It's not much of a town Heidi but it's all we've got. No stop lights, all old wooden buildings, with red dusty streets, and the highest gas prices in the country. We just bought an electric car, so when we pass by the two gas stations in town we just grin. Have a great 4th of July!

Beautiful image and I love the pov! Excellent!

James Temple replied:

Thanks Jennifer!

Love that Sky! Great capture!

James Temple replied:

Thanks again George, everything in this photo is still true today except the gas prices posted on the sign have gone up $2 a gallon since I took this photo.

Hi James, I am a streetscene painter, and was a daily contributor to your Cremes group, currently on much needed little break, because that Cremes thing requires quite the time the major consuming commitment,. But I just had to welcome you .. I always make a point of reading the artists description, and yours really puts this amazing photo into such clear perspective,, On the one hand you have the dusty little mainstreet, with its tiny strip of probably very necessary but extremely basic, stores, BUT THEN...we look up...and can hardly believe our eyes,,,, THE MAGNIFICENCE OF THAT SKY...leaves me almost speechless,,,the clouds look like mountains, in a celestial parallel universe that has allowed you a fortuitous glimpse..the mauves, the cerulean blues, proof of a master painter's hand at work,,,I TOTALITY LOVE THE DUALITY of this piece, your new friend Carole..

Spectacular colors and sky formation beautifully captured James ... wonderful! My best, Juergen

Glorious color in this. Love that sky.

Amazing palette of colors!

I love the Tee Shirt and note cards. They were better than I imagined. Taylor Wilson is a true talent. I hope to meet him in Lincoln someday.

This will be a birthday card for somebody who's interested in cats and Buddhism - so a very rare find. He'll find it very subtle, I think.

Love this painting of the Bethany Beach totem pole. I purchased the greeting and put it in a 5 x 7 frame. Looks wonderful!

Love my daughter's art. Sent the card to her Grandpa. He loves Peonies and was thrilled with it.

Love this California Impressionist painting of a Pacific sunset. Use the cards for our written correspondence.

Artist's Description

Kaunakakai is a very small dusty town but it is the largest town on the island of Molokai. The buildings are mostly wooden and there are no stop lights. Traffic moves slowly on main street. Once in a while two cars going in opposite directions, will stop and "talk story", creating a backup in traffic. It's OK though because no one is in a hurry here. Oh by the way, the gas prices on the left have gone up quite a bit since I took this photo, now $4.97 a gallon for regular, the highest in Hawaii. That's why I just bought an all electric car.

About James Temple

James Temple

I have lived in Hawaii for the past 16 years, 1200 feet above sea level, on the small rural island of Moloka'i. It is very quiet here, with only about 7,500 residents, sort of like living in a small town in the middle of the Pacific ocean. I appreciate the quiet life after spending 35 years in the advertising/design/illustration business in Chicago and San Francisco. I have always loved cooking. Eventually that love led me to a degree in the Culinary Arts. Since then I have designed and built a house, worked in restaurants, self-published three cookbooks, and took up photography. Now retired, I spend most of my time developing recipes and photographing them, plus researching and writing about Hawaii's culinary history on my food blog...
