Description
I can hear him playing, can't you? This man, Joe Scott, is part of a duo based out of Berthoud, CO. He and his wife make the BEST music! She plays the cello--Joe invented an instrument he calls the double-necked guitjo--and they are called Eidolon. Back in the early 90's, Hannah once accompanied me while I sang in church. She has always been dear to me, even though I hardly see her much anymore. My husband and I had the opportunity to take a cruise to the Bahamas on which Joe and Hannah were some of the onboard entertainment. What a joy and a delight to be in the company of these international musicians! I had been wanting to do a painting of Hannah, but there was something about a photo I snapped of Joe that just looked like a painting to me. I don't consider myself a portrait artist. While I was working on this piece, I never intended it to look like Joe. I had in mind for this to be any master guitarist in the spotlight. However, I guess it looks enough like him on some level, because when I showed this in the Rhythm on the River Music Festival in Longmont, Colorado, in 2010, a lady came up to me and said, "Hey! ...I just saw that guy in concert!" We talked a little, and sure enough--it was Eidolon that she had just seen. ...I'm still painting the one of Hannah in my mind. One of these days, it will come out on canvas....In regard to this painting--Master in the Spotlight, I donated it to a silent auction fundraiser held on Nov 7, 2014 to benefit a camp ministry called Upon the Rock.
