Description
There are various kinds of "matoa" (Pometia pinnata) fruit in Papua: red, black, green, and yellow - almost all of them are found in Jayapura-West Papua up to the Papua New Guinea border. This kind of fruit can be eaten fresh and tastes like a combination of rambutan and litchi which of course makes it a very tasty fruit. Because it tastes good, this fruit has a sale value high enough. It is very expensive per kilogram if taken out of Papua and sold in some big cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Makassar, etc. However, nowadays matoa trees are also found in those cities which its seeds are taken from Papua and planted throughout Indonesia. However, the taste is different from the original Papuan matoa fruit.
Matoa fruit is rich in vitamin C and vitamin E, but the fruit is rich in saturated glucose so if too many consume it will cause a "hangover".
