For years I was entranced by the songs of the many meadowlarks that reside in the fields here in Colorado. I'd always look for them but somehow they eluded me. Finally.....I started spotting them. Some have yellow breasts, some orange. They look as pretty as they sound.

Oh yes to your depiction of the meadowlark (surprisingly in the blackbird family). You can just feel its heart thumping under its breast. f
