Hi Edith, thanks for the comment and the great question! I too find abstract much more difficult than realism. Patterns don't come all that easily to me, so I'm always keeping my eyes out for good compositions. The idea for Microcosm came looking very closely at the bark on a tree. I find loads of inspiration in nature. Judging by your amazing photos, you obviously have a good eye for composition. If I were you I'd choose one of your photos with interesting shapes and colors and step back from it...maybe even just take a section of it so that it doesn't look like the object that it is. See if you can look at it differently and pick out those interesting shapes to paint and see where it leads you. :) Tabetha

Hi Tabetha, I'm also self-taught and have been drawing or painting since I was a child. I always loved doing profiles and faces, eyes especially, so realism is something i can do, and it's obvious you're skilled at that too. What I'm wondering is if it comes naturally for you to cross from realism at which you're so talented, to something like Microcosm, which I love as well, or what you may have done or do to get inspired to go outside of the boundaries of realism. I love abstract, but hate everything I do that's abstract. Any words of wisdom? :) thanks, edith

I would like to change the portrait size to 40” instead of 48” width

This piece is absolutely beautiful, and Fine Art America delivered great service. High quality reproduction and framing, shipped quickly and safely, and fully met my expectations. I love Linda Woods art. Check out her portfolio.

I thought it would illuminate under a blacklight but I still like it. Description could be improved.

It is a beautiful image of White Buffalo Woman. The framing was done well. I am disappointed that the upper right side (background) of the image is much darker then what was on my monitor. I found that it takes away from the beautiful flowing dark hair of White Buffalo Woman. It would have been spectacular if the background was lighter. For this, I am somewhat disappointed. Artist's Description

This painting is an abstraction of a close up photo of tree bark that I took. I call it Microcosm because in the bark I saw rivers and hills and cities. It was like a microcosm of the planet.

Hello, thanks for visiting my print store! All of the images below are taken from my original paintings, and can be custom ordered in a variety of sizes on archival paper or canvas. I've been painting since 1996, and painting still remains a wonderful mystery to me. I'm always experimenting and every painting is a new adventure. Painting to me is about emotion; I try to capture how whatever I'm painting made me feel. I love the experimentation and freedom that art allows. Often a painting will start out with one idea and end up somewhere else...
