Artist's Description

Montauk Mill at Montauk State Park The mill located at Montauk State Park is over 100 years old, and served the community well into the 1920s. Built in 1896, the old mill had very extensive machinery, and much of it is still there today. The mill used water power from a turbine, which was considered the most efficent power source. Parts of the system still work today. At one time, there were three different mills located in the Montauk valley area, before this one was built. The current mill was built further away from the river, to avoid flood damage. For over 30 years, millers ground hundreds of pounds of wheat and flour for local residents. The community of Montauk included mills, churches, schools, a blacksmith's shop, several general stores, and numerous homes scattered around the countryside. This historic site was very important, and a crucial part of the community into the 1920s.

About Greg Kluempers

Biography: I bought my first 35mm camera in 1970. Shortly after that I enrolled at Florissant Valley Community College to study art. I found the photography classes to very enjoyable. We studied composition and used photography to creatively express ourselves. At that time we were only working in black and white. In 1972 I participated in my first show with 10 other students. I continued to study photography and to take photos throughout the 70ís, 80ís and 90ís. In 1999 I returned to Florissant Valley at night and in June, 2006 I received Associate in Fine Arts Degree Ė Photography while working full time. Finally this fall I am retiring and I plan on spending much more time creating photographs. Artistís Statement: ...
