Description

Based on a photograph of a portion of a larger sculptural installation titled "Bronze Crowd" by Magdalena Abakanowicz at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas. I first painted an acrylic abstract to canvas. At its base level, already considered mindless or purposeless by some critics. While considering the release of this base painting, I visited the Nasher while working in the music business. I couldn't help but feel the artist was making a commentary about the mindless actions of a crowd. Later, while contemplating my day at the museum and the shared sentiment of both mine and this sculptural artist, I decided to blend the works to be an even larger statement. Combined in this way, I am showing solidarity with this artist and joining in the decree that we are as a crowd susceptible to a group mentality that is quickly led astray by just one charismatic leader. The irony of course is that so much thought went into this work and in this way, was anything but mindless.
