One of the most popular issues of Wonder Magazine was the issue devoted to Famous Monsters of Filmland. I was asked by the editor to use as a starting point a famous ad with a wide eyed boy saying "Wow" over Famous Monsters for an article about the differences between the classic monster movies and those that came after George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead. On the left you'll see Bela Lugosi's Dracula, Paramount's Mr. Hyde from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of 1931, The Invisible Man and the Wolfman. On the right you'll see Freddy from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, some zombies from Night of the Living Dead, and if you look closely, looming over the zombies on the far right, is an Alien from the movie series started by director Ridley Scott. I used opague watercolor (goache) with brush to achieve this piece. Whether you would call it a drawing or a painting, I have not a clue.

I consider myself primarily an illustrator. I never quite fit in with others, so I grew up isolated and found much of my comfort in movies, comic books, music, and books. My artistic influences include fantasy illustrators from the "Brandywine" school of Howard Pyle to the best comic book artists of today. I get my inspiration from such widely diverse sources as the absurd, music, classic movies, myth, pin-up, fantasy literature, and my Catholic sensibilities.
