My husband Juel and I witnessed this scene in late December not far from our Wyoming home. As the moon rose through the afterglow and the last rays of the setting sun glittered on the snow, a magnificent wild bighorn ram and his harem of ewes engaged in their courtship rituals. Though we often see bighorn sheep in the mountains around our Wyoming home, we were surprised to see them this far down in the sagebrush foothills. We'll never forget this magical experience. I created this painting almost completely with a pallette knife.

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
