In Thailand it is an honor for boys to go to the Buddhist temple for a month during the holidays to learn spiritual practices and to learn about becoming monks. The novice monks sleep outside under an overhang, their only protection from the weather is the overhang and these mosquito nets. Their doors and windows are through the mosquito nets. When it rains they practice overcoming fear and cold. I liked the way that the mosquito nets looked as they hung from the ceiling and are draped over four feet round dia discs. They looked like gems dancing in the wind. The saffron color is the same as the Buddhist robes. I painted this at the temple in Khon Kaen, Thailand. No one in the monastery understood why I found this an interesting subject.
