Randy, thank you so much for FEATURING my persimmon photo in the group "Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery". I always appreciate your kind words and support. I have an update, BTW. The persimmons must be just as delicious this year as always, because my dog cornered a possum in the backyard last night---they were 4 feet from this tree...which is now dropped almost all of its persimmons. (it's a small tree so it didn't have many anyway).

Shawn, thanks so much for your support of my work! I really appreciate the FEATURE in the group "Seasons of Beauty".

Jessica, thank you so much for FEATURING this image in the group "Nature from Around the World" -- always a great compliment!!!

Maria, thank you so much for FEATURING my persimmon in the group "The Photographer's Cafe" -- much appreciated!

Randy glad I was able to impress you and "stump" you at the same time! Both here in Georgia, and back home in Indiana we only ever ate the Persimmons as part of a dessert like Persimmn pudding -- which is more like a brownie or coffee cake texture, not pudding at all. Until they are ripe Persimmons are tart, but you dont know they are ripe until they it the ground! Most Persimmons are used as processed pulp because, frankly, when something the size of a large marble (that's squishy) hits the ground from 10 or 20 feet up it's just best to wash it off, grind it up and boil it down. Then you can use the pulp right away or freeze it for later on. You can probably find the pulp at the grocery store---but you need to make it into something! Btw, i can give you a second opinion on the quality of the ripe Persimmons--in the last couple of years since I have not been picking them up (there arent enough to bother) we have had a POSSUM problem! So there you go. Thanks again for your support!

Beautiful capture of this lovely fruit with the greenery, Cheryl, and it is one I have not yet tasted. Looks good, but how does it taste? Love the composition of this beauty! fave and vote

I ordered the larger size not this one. I double checked the order and discovered on payment that it was a lower price than expected. I wanted the largest one.

Looks great!

I hung this in a white frame in my bedroom. I love looking at it.

I wanted a serene, colorful picture to hang in a bathroom I was remodeling. This is the perfect picture because I have had and loved dogs all my life. I'm very happy with my choice and love seeing it every time I enter the room.

Beautiful illustration of Layne Staley. Once again, Mr. Shifflett does not disappoint. Have received a great deal of positive feedback from the band as well as hundreds of fans after seeing this illustration, as it captures Layne so beautifully. Thank you Mr. Shifflett! Please note, my photo does not do the illustration justice. Because it is mounted behind glass, to reduce glare I had to take the photo in low light.

Artist's Description

This is a Persimmon growing wild in my backyard. This one is about 2/3 the size of a ping pong ball, which is about average for my trees unless we've had LOTS of rain. Persimmons are native to the Southern United States and parts of the Midwest, I believe. I'm told that there are also Asian Persimmons that you can buy in the grocery store but they are much bigger. I find them fascinating because they are a link to our frontier past when families made use of every free resource available. Sassafras tea was common then, as was Persimmon pie or "pudding". And yes, we have eaten my Persimmons, and they were good---not recently however due to drought, etc. This image has been FEATURED in the following groups: * Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery * Seasons of Beauty * The Photographers Cafe * Nature From Around the World

About Cheryl Hardt Art

Originally from the Midwest, Cheryl has lived in Georgia for over 20 years and thinks there aren't many places that can compete with the beauty of springtime in Atlanta and the Southeastern U.S. -- and she enjoys trying to capture every single bloom of it each year! Cheryl also enjoys photographing leaves, tree canopies, summer wildflowers, historic buildings, trains and railroading, various other vehicles, and of course, family, friends and her pets. Cheryl is fairly new to "serious" photography and appreciates your interest in her work.
