Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

During my beginning experiences with Plein-Air painting, I was naive to think I could handle a larger format painting in a limited amount of time. This one was started on an18 X24 stretched canvas. Needless to day I was not able to finish it in the window of light I had available to me. The outdoor work proceeded back at my studio as an indoor work. Still, I was pleased with the finished result. The motivation behind this view lay in the small crevasse centered between the trees in the background across the lake. I wanted to create a bit of mystery as to what was behind the small dark passage way between these trees. As it turned out, the trees themselves became the dominant part of the image.
Born in Philadelphia in the late thirties, Jim Gola grew up heavily influenced by art and the cultural atmosphere contained in this bustling city. The city of brotherly love is still a thriving east coast art market that comprises some of the oldest art schools and galleries in America. Jim admits to spending numerous hours at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art as a youngster. Admiring much of the work of Americas past masters such as Inness, Moran, Chase, Homer and Bierstadt, among others. He then started to generate his lifelong love of oil painting.
