Description
An abstracted landscape inspired by a view of Georgian Bay, Ontario. This painting is composed of layers of encaustic pigmented beeswax, Japanese papers, oil paints and pastels. This painting was awarded 3rd place in the Markham Artists "Borders Beyond" Spring Show 2017.
Encaustic is derived from the Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” (enkaustikos). Encaustic medium is made up of natural beeswax and damar resin (crystallized tree sap). The medium can be used alone or pigments can be added to achieve colours. Heat is used throughout the encaustic process, from melting the beeswax to fusing the layers of wax.
