Description
Oculus Artificialis frontispiece, 1702 edition. This book was published by the German monk and author Johann Zahn (1641-1707). The book contains descriptions and diagrams of the camera obscura, the magic lantern, and many other optical devices. This frontispiece artwork shows people and cherubs conversing and using scientific instruments. A large telescope is at centre. At upper centre, below a divine eye, an angel carries the inscription, which gives the book's full title and the name of its author.
