Description
Ode to Newfoundland with Tartan Small Plaid by Barbara Griffin. The Ode to Newfoundland was written by Governor Sir Cavendish Boyle in 1902 when Newfoundland was a self-governing Dominion of the British Empire. The official tartan of Newfoundland was designed by a Water Street store merchant, Samuel Wilansky in 1955. It was registered in the Court of Lyon in 1973. The colors include green for the pine forests, gold for the sun, red for the connection to England, brown for the minerals under the soil, and white for the snow.
