Calcutta is one of the few places in the world that still has foot pulled rickshaws. The government keeps trying to ban them, but protests by the rickshaw wallahs have so far prevented it. This shot was taken around 1980. The city was impossibly congested then and I can only image what it is like now. Although Calcutta has many urban challenges, it is one of the most vibrant and compelling places I have seen. B&W version.
I am a retired professor at a college in Toronto and taught critical thinking and communications. In the past I also taught literature, creative thinking and problem solving.
