I started this painting well over a year ago, and set it aside (bad Roena) and did other works, but I started working on it again about 2 months ago. This is my fourth painting in the Flemish/Renascence method (like the old master's works) of 7 layers. This is a linen, gallery wrapped canvas. Three days were spent applying gesso/modeling paste (50/50) and sanding until the canvas is completely smooth. The drawing is put on and outlined in Indian ink. The canvas is toned to "get rid of the white canvas" called the Impirmatura layer. The painting is completed in Bt Umber to be as perfect as you can make it in so much that you could stop right there and frame it. Then the painting is painted in tones of gray (the gray layer) to make it appear as if it were a black and white photograph. Then the color layers are begun.
