Well, not as much as you might think. A lot of our 'ruins' were built of limestone, and finally just gave way to combinations of neglect, age, and weather as well. Actually, we have a lot more "standing ruins", than we do where they're pretty much gone, as you show here. There are many, many old abandoned homes that look pretty decent from the outside, but the entire inside is trash. Several could be saved if only someone with money would go in and gut the inside, then start over again.
