The ocean is so much more than blue. Waves catching the afternoon sun reflect purples, corals, golds and even pinks.
Opalescent Sea, the artwork, catches the beauty and variance of the colors of the waves – the glint of sunlight overhead plays upon the movement of the water, and an explosive panoply of color comes forth – blue (of course), but also violet, pink, gold, red, lavender, deep purple – in a veritable rainbow of color and hue.
The ocean coast is a fascinating place, no matter where that coast may be. And while many, understandably, enjoy the warmer waters of Hawaii and the Caribbean and California and any place where one can wade and swim without shivering, there is much to be said for the cooler coasts, such as those on the Central Oregon beaches.
To surf here, one definitely needs a wet suit, but to reflect and enjoy the peace of a quiet walk along the beach, the Central Oregon Coast is the place to be. Because it is not crammed with people to the point that all one sees are bodies and umbrellas, the visitor to the beach is able to spend hours with the sea, watching the waves, building a sand castle, walking in the sand.
There are people, of course, because this is a tourist area – but many of the people who visit the Central Oregon Coast are focused on the ocean, and many spend much time staring out at the horizon of color, the foam of the surf, the clouds building over the horizon. It is here where one will catch a glimpse of the Opalescent Sea, here where one has time and space to wonder at the majesty of the ocean’s very being.
With time to wonder and think, the beach walker discovers, to his or her amazement and joy, that the ocean is not, indeed, just blue. It is an Opalescent Sea.
