Description
Open cluster NGC 2367, composite image. Combined optical, infrared and ultraviolet image of the open cluster NGC 2367. This young open cluster of stars is around 5 million years old. Most of its stars are young and hot and shine with an intense blue light, while the surrounding hydrogen gas glows red. This open cluster is part of the Brand 16 Nebula, itself part of the supershell region GS234-02. NGC 2367 is around 7000 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Canis Major. This image was obtained with the Wide Field Imager (WFI) camera on the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope at ESO's La Silla Observatory in Chile. Image released in July 2015.
