Description
Through an open, screened back door of an old farmhouse we see the family cat waiting patiently to be let in from the back porch. This image has strong patterns and leading lines that make it graphically pleasing at the same time as it is sentimental.
This image took first place in the Family Farm category of the prestigious Iowa State Fair Photography Salon in 2014.

What a wonderful moment captured . . . a celebration of everyday life and the wonders of those 'ordinary' things! . . . .f/l

Great subject, Nikolyn! I like the BW.
Nikolyn McDonald replied:
Thanks, Betsy. The bw definitely showed off the lines and patterns best and that's what attracted me to the scene in the first place.

Lovely work Nikolyn! From reading the comments left for you this image seems to have stirred some nostalgia in viewers. My cat is usually on the inside wanting to be out. L/F
Nikolyn McDonald replied:
Thank you, Linda. Yes, it does seem to have emotional appeal - maybe farm cats had more freedom to be outdoors and it was a treat to be let in :) Thanks for the nice comment.

You have an outstanding gallery of Black and White images. So many to appreciate, but this one tugged at my heart. Great tonal quality, light and expression!

Fantastic capture Nikolyn! It has evoked so many memories from my childhood on a farm. Similar doors and yes....a cat wanting to come in. Wonderful work! l/f

I see something new each time I see this image. My grandparent's farm house had those ceramic door knobs. Nice memories. :)
Nikolyn McDonald replied:
Thanks, Greg. Photos of older places are always wonderful for evoking memories. Appreciate the comment.
