Description
This Painting portrays Jalil Khayat Mosque. Jalil Khayat Mosque is the largest mosque in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan. It was completed in 2007 and was begun by Jalil Khayat. Khayat died in 2005 and the mosque was completed by his sons in his memory. The mosque's style resembles the Mosque of Muhammad Ali in Cairo and the Blue mosque in Istanbul. It has been cited in online lists of the most beautiful mosque interiors. Alkhayat construction company states that 'The mosque building relies on Islamic architecture and al-Abbasi design except the domes', which are an Ottoman design. The height of the main dome is 48 metres, the diameter is 20 metres, with four half domes and twelve quarter domes surrounding it. The mosque is 15,000 square metres and holds about 1,500 to 2,000 people.
