Description
MODEL RELEASED. Pharmaceutical herbarium. Pharmaceutical technicians cataloguing new plants in a herbarium. The plant samples, which are from all over the world, are weighed (at centre left), unpacked (at centre right) and entered onto computer (at upper centre). The herbarium, or botany room, is where plants are dried, pressed and stuck to sheets for identification purposes (as at bottom left). The photograph was taken at Shaman Pharmaceuticals in San Francisco, USA. They use the traditional healing plants of indigenous medicine men, or shamans, as a basis for drug development. The company believes these plants are an excellent source of safe and effective drugs.
