The delicate blue of the Pine Barrens Gentians stand out against the subtler tones around it, lighting up the forest floor in spatial patterns not unlike stars in the night sky. Less common is a white form (see my photo of one taken on the same day). This photo was taken in the coastal barrens of North Carolina on a November day.
