It was a gift for a friend who has worked on these rigs. It’s now in his own company facility. He loves it.
The grain elevator, is a building designed to receive, store and ship grain in bulk. They can be seen from kilometers away dotting the countryside in Manitoba and Western Canada. In many rural towns they are the center of activity and business. They are like silent giants sentinels overlooking the rural countryside.
Manitoba Pool Elevators was a grain trade company founded in 1924. It became a subsidiary of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool until November 1932, when the Pool declared bankruptcy. In 1998, MPE merged with to form Agricore Cooperative Limited. When the company merged with United Grain Growers, it changed its name to Agricore United. In 2007, it was taken over by Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, which changed its name to Viterra.
Although many changes have taken place over the years, this elevator remains a vivid and some what comforting memory for many.
