The Prairie Lily is becoming less and less common due to the habitat loss that the prairie remnants are suffering, in amongst the desert of the mono-cultural agriculture that we are experiencing today. They add a bright spot of color in among the prairie grasses. This specimen was drawn as back lit to bring out the vibrancy of the plant and petals.

I studied at the University of Iowa's School of Art, where I majored in Photography and minored in two other mediums: Painting and Serigraphy. The landscape is a favored subject in my photography, paintings and drawings; while birds are a favorite subject in my serigraphy and drawings. The photographic landscape is treated in large and medium formats. In painting I prefer a plein air approach and these works are smaller in scale. My work in serigraphy plays upon a more graphic approach of shape, color and line. My interests have always been torn between the camera and the canvas, between birds and the landscape; now particularly the "Prairie".
